Why you will love creating charcuterie roses

    - Easy to prepare: Creating salami roses take minimal effort with just a little practice.

    - Elevates your cheese board: It's a fun way to turn a simple charcuterie board into a gorgeous charcuterie board.

    - Perfect for the holidays and special occasions: Adding a salami rose to a charcuterie board for  Easter, Mother's Day, Valentine's Day, bridal showers, or birthdays is a beautiful way to celebrate a holiday season.

    Ingredients

A package of salami and a glass champagne flute.
    • Salami: You will need around 20-30 pieces of salami, depending on the size of the glass. Look for healthier meat options without antibiotics, preferably organic when possible.
    • Champagne Glass: I find using a 2" diameter champagne glass allows for a tighter spiral to the center, which gives a more realistic look to the salami rose. You could always use the rim of a wine glass but will need around 30 slices.

    Instructions

An aerial view on sliced salami covering the rim of the champagne flute. Layers are slowly building until the flute is flipped and a salami rose is revealed.
    1. Start with a clean glass. To create the first layer, fold one piece of salami halfway over the rim of the glass. Gently squeeze the slice with your fingertips to help secure it to the glass. The salami slice should be half inside the glass and the other half outside of the glass. Grab another slice of salami and overlap the first slice by ¼- ½ an inch. Overlapping is what creates the shape of a rose. Repeat the steps until the entire rim is covered.
    2. Start the second layer. Using the same process, overlapping the salami slices, and making your way around the glass.
    3. Repeat this process creating several layers.  When finished, the hole in the center starts to close, without being able to add any more layers securely.
    4. Reveal the rose. Flip the champagne glass. upside down and slowly pull the glass away, releasing the salami rose.

    Storage

To make ahead: These meat flowers can be made ahead of time. Make sure to wrap the salami or pepperoni rose in plastic wrap, and store it in an airtight container until ready to use.

To store: Any leftover salami can be repackaged in an airtight container.

    Expert Tips

    • Add appetizer forks to help serve.- Having appetizer forks nearby will allow guests to grab a piece without using their hands. Start at the bottom layer of the salami rose and work your way toward the middle. Having appetizer forks nearby will allow guests to grab a piece without using their hands.
    • Use a champagne flute- Making salami roses using a clear champagne flute will allow for a tighter spiral, which gives a more authentic look. The size of the glass will determine the size of the rose. Larger glasses will result in larger roses.
    • Only use circular cuts of meat- Thinly sliced salami and pepperoni work best for meat roses. Do not use deli meats or sandwich meat as they will not hold.

    FAQ

How much salami does it take to make a rose?

Depending on the size of your glass rim will determine the number of salami slices you will need. A 2" champagne flute will need about 20 slices, whereas a larger glass like a 3" wine glass will need around 30 slices of salami.

Can you make a salami rose ahead of time?

Salami roses are best created the day you plan to serve them. If you decide to make it in advance, wrap the salami rose in saran wrap and then store the meat rose in an airtight container, 1 day in advance.

What other meat can I use to make a rose?

Aside from salami, pepperoni works well to create pepperoni roses. Meats that are not recommended include thicker cuts of meats such as deli meats or sandwich meats.

How do you eat a salami rose?

Start by lifting the pieces from the bottom outside corners, and slowly work your way toward the center of the salami rose. Place an appetizer fork nearby to allow guests to tear away slices without using their fingers.
