Jalapeno Turkey Burgers - Perfectly Spiced
Turkey burgers are an easy weekly meal prep staple in our house. We rotate between our Mediterranean oregano feta version and these jalapeño turkey burgers, which are loaded with red onion, minced garlic, fresh cilantro, and spices. We typically serve them 'protein style' with a slice of pepper jack, though they’re just as good on a gluten-free bun. For a balanced meal, we love pairing them with delicious baked Murasaki sweet potatoes and roasted broccoli.
Ingredients and Notes

- Ground Turkey: I recommend using 93% lean ground turkey for the best results. Anything leaner and you risk the burgers becoming dry.
- Aromatics: The jalapeño (seeded and finely diced) adds a nice kick, along with the red onion and minced garlic.
- Fresh Herbs: Cilantro adds a burst of freshness.
- Spices: For the seasoning, we use a blend of smoked paprika, cumin, salt, and black pepper to give the meat a smoky, savory depth.

How To Make Baked Jalapeño Turkey Burgers
Step 1: Prep the ingredients. Add the ground turkey, red onion, jalapeño, minced garlic, cilantro, smoked paprika, cumin, salt, and black pepper to a large bowl.

Step 2: Mix to combine. Gently stir the mixture until all the ingredients are evenly incorporated.

Step 3: Form the patties. Divide the mixture into four equal portions. (I like to weigh the total mixture on a food scale and divide by four for perfectly even patties!) Place the turkey burger patties on a parchment-lined baking sheet and refrigerate for 15 minutes.

Step 4: Bake the patties. Once preheated, place the parchment-lined baking sheet in the oven at 350°F and bake for 15–17 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F.

Storage and Reheating Instructions
To Store: Place any remaining turkey burgers in an airtight container and refrigerate for up to five days.
How to Reheat:
- Microwave Method: Place the burger on a microwave-safe plate. To prevent the turkey from drying out, drape a damp paper towel over the top to trap steam. Reheat in 30-second intervals until warmed through.
- Stovetop Method: Place a skillet over medium-low heat with a splash of water or broth. Add the patty and cover with a lid. The steam will gently heat the burger through in 2–3 minutes without making the edges tough.
How to Freeze: You can freeze these turkey patties either cooked or uncooked. To prevent them from sticking together, freeze them individually on a tray first, or stack them with sheets of parchment paper in between. Transfer the patties to a freezer-safe bag or container for up to three months. When you’re ready to eat, thaw them in the refrigerator overnight before baking or reheating.

- ¼ cup red onion, diced
- 1 tablespoon minced garlic
- 1 medium jalapeño, diced and seeded
- 2 tablespoons fresh cilantro, chopped
- 1 ½ teaspoon cumin
- 1 ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 4 slices pepper jack cheese, optional
Instructions
- Prep the ingredients. Add the ground turkey, red onion, jalapeño, minced garlic, cilantro, smoked paprika, cumin, salt, and black pepper to a large bowl.
- Mix to combine. Gently stir the mixture until all the ingredients are evenly incorporated.
- Form the patties. Divide the mixture into four equal portions. (I like to weigh the total mixture on a food scale and divide by four for perfectly even patties!) Place the turkey burger patties on a parchment-lined baking sheet and chill in the refrigerator for 15 minutes. While the burgers chill, preheat your oven to 350°F.
- Bake the patties. Once the oven is preheated, place the parchment-lined baking sheet in the oven and bake for 15–17 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F.
