Transform your Christmas tree into a work of art. Discover how to create a stunning black and white Christmas tree with gold accents for a sophisticated holiday vibe.
Every year I decorate two premium Christmas trees to celebrate the holiday season. An 8-foot artificial Christmas tree with warm white lights is nestled in our living room, and a luxurious 12-foot artificial tree stands in our foyer. They are both easy to assemble and the flocked Christmas tree look gives our home a winter wonderland feel.
In this post, you'll discover how to create a luxurious black, white, and gold Christmas tree as I walk you through the steps. Trust me when I say, this modern Christmas color scheme will transform your tree into a statement piece this holiday season!
The black and gold color combination is one of the most elegant, yet non-traditional when it comes to Christmas color schemes, until now. Black ornaments offer rich depth and contrast, gold adds a warm elegant glow, and the pops of white add brightness bringing together the entire look.
This year I splurged on a few vintage Jason Wu white and black Christmas tree ornaments. They add a level of sophistication, among the various matte and glass black ornaments.
Decorating a Black White and Gold Christmas Tree
1. Fluff the branches and shape the branches. You'll want to start first by fluffing the branches of your tree(s). Shaping artificial trees takes time but is essential in achieving a full and lifelike look. After fluffing the branches I tuck strips of fur ribbon into the center of the trees for added bulk and to create the illusion of snow covering the branches. You don't have to add a piece of fur ribbon to every branch.
2. Next, add the picks and florals. These are great for filling in sparse areas of the tree while adding dimension, texture, and elegance. My large white pearl picks and white and gold magnolia flowers are some of my classic staples. Having neutral colors allows for a timeless look that can be used year after year with each new color scheme.
3. Arrange the ornaments. After the florals and picks, you can hang your ornaments, largest to smallest. Add the large ornaments to the base, medium-sized ornaments in the middle, and fill the small ornaments in the center and outer branches of the tree. Special ornaments should always be hung last, to lessen the chance of breaking.
4. Ribbon and tree topper. For a finishing touch, I added large loops of black velvet ribbon and white ribbon to the 12-foot tree and did not add ribbon to the 8-foot tree. Both tree toppers are made of gold leaf and pearl picks, which give the trees a designer look. Other options for the top of the tree include a gold star topper or even a white bow. Underneath each tree is a winter white faux fur tree skirt filled with white and gold boxes tied with black silk ribbon.
Expert Tip
Holiday decor can be expensive, but a pro tip is to build your collection slowly, and invest in a few higher-end glass ornament sets each year that will stand the test of time. Starting a collection with a neutral gold and white theme gives you a place to build from. Most of my white ornaments and gold ornaments have been collected throughout the years but will complement any future Christmas color palette.
I hope you enjoyed this year's Christmas post and that it helps create your black, white, and gold dream tree.

FAQ
Black Christmas ornaments may not be traditional, but they do dress up a simple Christmas tree giving it a modern and elegant look. Adding personal touches like white and gold ornaments and white and gold tree picks will bring together a sophisticated, modern Christmas tree.
The first step is stringing the tree lights if you do not have a pre-lit tree. Then fluff the tree branches on the entire faux tree, adding the florals and picks. Next, hang all of the ornaments, arrange the decorative ribbon, and place the tree topper on top of the tree.
I like using lightweight picks for the tree toppers, but you could use a traditional star, bow, or make a floral arrangement.
If you are looking to create a beautiful tree like a pro, you'll want to start by investing in a high-quality flocked tree. Faux Christmas trees are designed to bring a full, abundant look to your seasonal decor which can not always be accomplished with a fresh tree. When decorating, focus on symmetry and balance. Evenly distribute the picks, florals, and ornaments around the tree, using a variety of ornament sizes, and textures to create visual interest and depth. Use timeless decorations that are within your color scheme while also investing in new ornaments to help build your holiday decor collection. Use a minimum of three color varieties with balance, while avoiding overusing a single color. After the ornaments, add the decorative ribbon throughout. Finish decorating the tree by adding a tree topper on top, and a tree collar or tree skirt at the base of the tree. Don't forget to add personal style and have fun.
