Why You'll Love This Hugo Spritz Recipe

If you're a fan of the classic  Aperol spritz and Limoncello spritz, this modern classic cocktail is for you! The Hugo spritz is a delicious blend of elderflower liquor, bubbly prosecco, citrus lime, and mint. The perfect indulgence during the warm summer months, that is both refreshing and flavorful. Here are more reasons why you will love this Hugo spritz cocktail recipe:

    • Easy to make. Simplicity is what sets the Hugo Spritz recipe apart. Spritz cocktails take only minutes to make with simple steps to follow and a handful of ingredients.
    • Delicious and refreshing. This is truly the drink of the summer! Refreshing and light, it's the perfect cocktail.
    • Natural liquor. Made with hand-picked fresh elderflowers and no artificial flavors, this vibrant-flavored drink is the perfect aperitif!

    Hugo Spritz Ingredients

You’ll need the following ingredients to make this delicious Hugo spritz recipe:

Ingredients for a hugo spritz cocktail. Prosecco, St-Germain liquor, sparkling water, ice, lime, and mint.

    Ingredient Notes

    • Fresh Mint Leaves: You’ll muddle some mint leaves to infuse the drink with flavor and add more to your glass for garnish. Look for fresh vibrant green mint leaves.
    • St-Germain Liqueur: This elderflower liquor is the main ingredient, containing up to 1,000 elderflower blossoms and no artificial flavors! The result is a finely crafted, perfectly balanced, and refined liqueur, which can be found at most liquor stores.
    • Prosecco: I recommend using an affordable dry (brut) bubbly bottle of prosecco (sparkling wine).
    • Sparkling Water: You can use a splash of club soda or sparkling water for fizzy dilution with a neutral flavor.
    • Lime: Fresh slices of lime to garnish add a zesty flare to the drink. The hint of lime juice gently infuses and pairs well with the floral and minty notes. You can also use fresh lemon slices.

    Hugo Spritz Instructions

Steps on how to craft a hugo spritz cocktail. Add the mint and elderflower liquor to a large wine glass. Muddle the mint leave, top with ice Prosecco, sparkling water, lime wedge and additional mint.
    • Step 1: Prepare the mint. Strip 6-8 mint leaves from the stalk, and firmly slap the mint on the back of your hand or palm. This releases the oils to make the mint more aromatic.
    • Step 2: Infuse the mint in elderflower liquor. Add the St. Germain and mint leaves into a large wine glass. Gently muddle the mint and let sit for 3 minutes to infuse.
    • Step 3: Top off with bubbly. Add ice cubes, the Prosecco, and sparkling water. Stir briefly and gently to combine.
    • Step 4: Garnish and serve. Garnish with a mint sprig and lime wedge.

    Substitutions & Variations

    • Citrus: Fresh lime slices or a lemon wheel enhance the natural citrus flavors of this refreshing drink, you don't want to skip the citrus.
    • Berries: Fresh fruit such as chopped or muddled raspberries, strawberries, blueberries, or blackberries would complement the floral notes in this cocktail.

    Tips For Success

    • Muddle the mint leaves -  When muddling herbs like mint you want to be delicate, pressing the leaves gently with a cocktail muddler or the back of a bar spoon to release their essential oils.
    • Chill everything - Make sure to chill the Prosecco and sparkling water before making this drink to keep the cocktail cool.

St‑Germain is a French liqueur made with fresh elderflowers that are hand-picked once a year in the late spring. It has only natural flavors, and every bottle of St‑Germain contains up to 1,000 elderflower blossoms, resulting in a finely crafted, perfectly balanced, and refined liqueur.
