Orange Maple Glazed Salmon Ingredients
- Salmon: Wild-caught sockeye salmon works well for this recipe. I use four 6-ounce filets.
- Orange Juice: Fresh orange juice gives the glaze a delicious depth of acidic flavor.
- Orange Zest: The orange zest is both vibrant in color and flavor, allowing the orange to come through more pronounced.
- Coconut Aminos: This healthier soy sauce substitute provides a salty-sweet flavor.
- Maple Syrup: Just a touch of maple syrup provides the perfect amount of sweetness. You can also substitute the maple syrup for honey if you prefer.
- Minced Garlic: Fresh minced garlic gives the sauce both flavor and texture.
- Salt & Pepper: Season the salmon with both salt and pepper to your liking, prior to baking.
- Fresh Thyme: Although optional, a spring of fresh thyme is the perfect garnish to complement to luscious orange glaze
Instructions
You only need a handful of ingredients for the maple orange glaze. Easy and delicious!
Place the salmon on a lined baking sheet and sprinkle with salt and pepper. Bake in the oven at 375°Foven for 15 minutes.
Whisk together the ingredients for the glaze, then pour the sauce into a large frying pan.
On high heat, bring the sauce to a simmer while continuing to whisk until thickened (3-5 minutes). The glaze should coat the back of a spoon.
Once the salmon is cooked through, remove the pan from the oven and transfer the salmon to a plate. Brush each piece of salmon with the orange maple glaze until fully coated.
Hint: Brush the glaze on top of the salmon after transferring it to a plate to avoid the glaze from melting from the heat of the pan.
Can I Make This Glaze in Advance?
You can combine the ingredients of the uncooked glaze in advance, but do not reduce it on the stovetop until prior to serving. Store the uncooked sauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
Storage
This maple orange salmon recipe is best served the same day. You can store any leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
Top Recipe Tips
- Watch the glaze carefully to avoid overcooking: It takes about 3-5 minutes for the glaze to thicken, and the glaze will continue to thicken after resting.
- Use Fresh Navel Oranges: Freshly squeezed orange juice always tastes best in my opinion but you could substitute it for regular cold-pressed orange juice.
- The internal temperature of Salmon: The salmon is fully cooked once it reaches an internal temperature of 145°.
